The Boston Bruins: A History
The Early Years
The Boston Bruins were founded in 1924 by Charles Adams, who also owned the Boston Braves baseball team. The Bruins were one of the Original Six teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), and they have won six Stanley Cup championships, the most recent of which came in 2011.
The Bruins' first game was on December 1, 1924, against the Montreal Canadiens. The Bruins lost that game, but they went on to finish the season with a record of 16-24-2. The following season, the Bruins finished with a record of 26-12-4, and they won their first Stanley Cup championship.
The 1970s and 1980s
The Bruins were a dominant force in the NHL during the 1970s and 1980s. They won the Stanley Cup in 1970, 1972, and 1974, and they reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1977, 1978, and 1988.
Some of the most famous Bruins players from this era include Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, and Ray Bourque. Orr was one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history, and he won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman eight times.
The 21st Century
The Bruins have continued to be a competitive team in the 21st century. They won the Stanley Cup in 2011, and they have reached the Stanley Cup Finals twice since then, in 2013 and 2019.
Some of the most famous Bruins players from this era include Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, and David Pastrnak. Chara is one of the most respected defensemen in the NHL, and he has won the Norris Trophy three times.
